
When
giving first aid for burns, the first thing you need to do is to cool
and cover the burn in order to relieve pain the patient . However, avoid
removing material that may be sticking to the affected part as this can
result to an infection. Avoid using iced water or ice on the burn. Bandage
the affected area with a sterile pad. The use of creams, oils or sprays
is not recommended.? Apply antibiotic ointment and wrap the affected area
with bandage. Severe burns, usually second or third degree burns, are
usually characterized by swelling, severe blistering and normally cover
a large portion of the skin. Immediate first aid for burns in these degrees
is an important thing to do firsthand and should be given medical treatment.
Burns can change dramatically over the first 48 hours, please consult
a physician if redness and irritation continues.
Minor
Burns are burns that cover only a small area of the body
Apply
cold water immediately for approximately 15 minutes. This helps lessen
the pain and stops the heat from penetrating deeper.
Leave blisters intact.
Protect area from heat (sun) and dirt.
Wash wound gently with a mild soap and water especially if the blister
has burst.
Apply
butter or grease. This can cause infection.
